Who can take part?
There are numerous running events in Leeds that are open to all abilities from the absolute beginner to the more advanced athlete. Whether you are just starting out in your new found interest of running or looking for your next big challenge, Leeds has some fantastic events all year round to suit your every need.
Park Run is held at various locations in Leeds on a weekly basis every Saturday morning from 9.00am. This is a 5km timed event and a perfect opportunity to run for fun, keep fit, be competitive, and even a chance to meet new people with similar interests. This is a fantastically well run weekly event that is completely free and a great way to improve your overall fitness. The park runs tend to attract anywhere between 300-500 people on a weekly basis so there is always someone to run with, a perfect starting point for beginners looking to increase their interest in running. Park runs official sponsorship deals make it possible for their events to be free, without this they would not survive. The first thing you need to do before just turning up on the day is register online, this takes no longer than 5 minutes and is completely FREE. Remember to take a printed copy of your barcode, this is to ensure you get an official time upon completion of the 5km run. You can also track your progress online along with your fellow competitors, a statistic summary based on our previous performances works out your best, worst and average weekly results.

10k and Half Marathon Race Events in Leeds:
Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10k Date: Sunday 10th July 2016 Time: 9.30am Location: Millennium Sq, Leeds City Centre
The ASDA Foundation Leeds 10k is now in its 9th year, a flat and fast course making this an ideal opportunity for a personal best time. This event is open to all running abilities and would be a suitable choice for someone just starting out in the sport. Passing some of the cities landmark buildings you will begin the race by Vicar Lane, from there you will head towards Wellington street and spend the majority of the race on Kirkstall Road. The 10k course will come to an end at the town hall in the city centre where a crowd of well over a thousand people will be waiting to cheer you over the line.
Age Uk Abbey Dash 10k Date: Sunday 6th November 2016 Time: TBA (usually 9.30am) Location: Wellington street, Leeds
Every year this event tends to break new record attendances with capacity for well over 10,000 runners, a popular course that has been voted as one of the top 3 road races in the UK. The race is one of 6 events that’s incorporated in the Run Britain Grand Prix series, with ranking points up for grabs this attracts some of the countries top athletes. The event is open to all abilities from club runners to individuals wanting to run for fun. Again this is another course that is perfect for a PB, under slightly cooler temperatures in November this is usually a faster course than the Leeds 10k in July.

Wanting more of a challenge? Look no further than the Leeds half marathon. Not the flattest course around with some tough hilly sections to contend with during the first half of the race, after 6 miles the route flattens out making it slightly more comfortable on the way back into the town centre. This course will definitely test you mentally and physically, however like any half marathon the rewards of completing one is a very special accomplishment.
Mo Run Leeds Date: 5th November 2017 Time: 10.10am Location: Roundhay Park, Leeds
MoRunning supports Movember and their fund raising for men’s health, in particular prostate cancer. There are two race options available with the 5km Mo run commencing at 10am which is quickly followed by the 10km Mo run that begins at 10.10am. This is a fantastic fun and friendly atmosphere that strongly encourages participants to dress up and support a great cause. Every entrant will receive a MoRunning medal, snacks, drinks and other goodies on the day with the entry fee going directly to supporting the charity.
