What To Expect From Strength & Conditioning In Leeds?
The overall aim of our strength and conditioning programme is to improve your physical performance, reduce the risk of injury, and build long-term resilience. We don’t believe in random workouts, we believe in having a structured and progressive plan in place that allows the individual to make weekly progression.

Assessment & Goal Setting?
Before any training can begin, we need to have a clear understanding of your background and exercise history. CSS Fitness prides itself on educating clients on how to periodise their training so they can progressively move closer to their outlined goals. See our contact form for a FREE consultation

Movement Screening –
We establish your starting point based off movement screening in order to highlight any current weaknesses or imbalances. Your experience level and execution level of movements will also be factored into our assessment.
Fitness Testing –
We may or may not decide to undertake some form of fitness testing. There are a variety of tests we can do for strength, speed, power, endurance, flexibility etc.
Rehab Injuries –
Any pre-existing injuries should be raised and discussed with the coach so there’s full transparency. We also need to factor in any current niggles or injuries so we can address these from the beginning.

Strength & Conditioning In Leeds:
Strength training is not just for athletes, bodybuilders or powerlifters. I would say it’s the foundation for better performance, posture and long-term health. You might be someone who is looking to improve the following; muscular Strength, endurance, speed, power, flexibility, stability and co-ordination.

Neurological Adaptations;
When you lift weights or perform resistance exercises, your nervous system must send stronger, faster, and more synchronised signals to your muscles. Overtime your body will effectively learn how to recruit more muscle fibers, fire them much quicker, and co-ordinate them efficiently during movement.
A basic example would be; Let’s take a beginner learning how to squat. Your nervous system is learning how to balance under load and understand which muscles to recruit and activate (Quads, glutes, hamstrings, core). How you brace, initiate and load the movement in the right order and intensity.
The Musculoskeletal System;
This includes your muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, joints, and connective tissue. Strength training is one of the most powerful ways to strengthen your musculoskeletal system and there’s literally a million and one benefits. For example; stronger muscles support and protect joints by reducing stress on ligaments and cartilage. If we incorporate movements like squats, deadlifts and lunges which mimic daily activities such as lifting, bending, and squatting, we can then improve functional strength and balance.
The Purpose Of GPP (General physical Preparedness);
A phase of training that typically occurs at the beginning of an athletes training cycle. It’s main purpose is to build a strong foundation of general physical qualities like strength, endurance, co-ordination, and mobility, rather than sport-specific skills which we’ll address below. We need to establish basic strength before we can dive into more complex and advanced training. For more useful information on GPP, here’s a useful article from Westside Barbell “The Ultimate Guide To GPP”
The Purpose Of SPP (Specific Physical Preparedness or Sport Specific Preparedness);
This particular phase of training is where the focus becomes more tailored to the specific movements, energy systems, and demands of an athlete’s sport to maximise performance in competition. We now look to build upon the GPP phase applying the general physical abilities to meet the specialised demands of the athletes sport.

Conditioning:
This is where we look to improve cardiovascular and metabolic systems in order to handle sport specific demands. Conditioning makes your muscles and connective tissue more resilient, this helps your body withstand the demands of training and sport. You may even decide to implement a conditioning focused training day, the goal of executing 30-45 minutes of training using common cardiovascular based exercises. For example, an athlete could choose to use conditioning tools like the rower, ski erg, sled sprints, ball slams, heavy carries and much more.
