Super Smoothies

Summer is here, which means one thing… It’s smoothie season! Whether you’re feeling like you’re lacking certain vitamins and minerals within your diet or simply just want an extra boost, these super smoothies are sure to pack a powerful punch. For anyone that struggles to consume enough fruit and vegetables, smoothies are a great way of packing a variety of different vitamins into your daily nutrition.

I recommend adding a scoop of protein powder to your smoothies not only because this is an essential daily macronutrient for growth and repair, but this will also thicken up the drink. Below, I have provided ingredients for 5 different smoothies to get your taste buds tingling and your internal systems smiling. It goes without saying a personal favourite of mine is the CSS Special, however I also highly recommend the Chocolate Crew especially for people that suffer with chocolate cravings.

A few things to consider when it comes to vitamins:

Vitamins are essential for normal physiologic function (i.e. growth, reproduction etc.) Adequate intake from food and/or supplements is necessary to prevent deficiency, promote optimal health, improve nutrient partitioning and promote fat loss and muscle gain. If you decide to incorporate a vitamin/mineral supplement, look for one providing nutrients derived from whole foods. Make sure this includes natural forms of vitamin E as opposed to the synthetic versions.

Nutrient deficiencies in the general population?

Nutrient deficiencies tend to be common among populations such as the elderly, athletes (who have a higher requirement for many nutrients), and people with low incomes (who may not consume as many healthy foods).

When someone reduces food intake in an effort to drop body fat, they’re almost guaranteed a nutrient deficiency. Why? Because as food intake goes down, nutrient intake does too.
